Woman's Injustice.

Woman are not only a man's partner. Woman deserve to have roles and rights. Men tend to view us woman as the weaker link my question is why? Is it because we might not have the same physical strength they have, or we are just not "superior" at certain things.  We don't only belong in the kitchen or taking care of our family members but we also should be given the right to participate in the public sphere.  Till this day woman are viewed as not being capable of participating in politics and government. It is believed that men are superior intellectually. However women have special qualities and skills that men don't have. Why aren't we recognized for being a part of something big? For example Hilary Clinton was running for president. There was a certain percent of people that were not voting for her just because she was a woman. We shouldn't be judged according to our gender but for the knowledge we obtain and the skills we have. People need to recognize that us woman are hard working and can do almost the same things men could. We should be treated equally!!

Our Healthy Conditions Should be Addressed.

Health problems caused by unhealthy food is one of the main issues that should be addressed in the United States. People are eating food that can affect their physical appearance making them feel insecure, they are losing energy, control over their body leading to a decrease of their life expectancy. I understand that people should be aware of what they're eating and how it can affect them later on in life, but I also believe that our nation has something to do with it as well. Instead of eliminating places that are causing the unhealthiness of many individuals, the government continues in accepting the opening of many food businesses especially fast food restaurants (McDonalds, Burger King, etc) . The United States is known for obesity, we should be known for being healthy and taking good care of ourselves. But how could we do this? Schools should provide healthier foods, vitamin drinks, more fruits, vegetables etc. Restaurants such as McDonals, Burger King, Taco Bell and many others should no longer exist. Many life's are being lost today thanks to the unhealthiness of the fast food restaurants mentioned above. It's time to take charge and protest against businesses that are causing us problems. Some people might like them, but they should be more concerned on their health and not on things that seem to look and taste good. It takes a large amount of people to have a non-violent protest against the government, and get their point across.. thats the only way we can be heard.

Imperialism

This picture shows President William Mckinley was contemplating imperial conquest while ignoring racial problems. He was accused of imperialism when he declared that Puerto Rico and the Phillippines should not be allowed to fall into the wrong hands. He created demands for the intervention of the United States. It was basically a peace treaty that declared that the United States had control over Puerto Rico and the Phillipines. He had the desire to acquire ownership on these two areas in which he would be able to could build a stronger force to increase trade. He wanted to make America a greater nation. However in order to seize the countries, the Americans fought against Spain and succeeded in taken over Spains possessions. The ending of the Spanish war, and Americans winning gave them brought about a great expansion of the navy. The increase of merchandise and navy forces were two of the main advantages from the war, it was exactly what the President William Mickinley went for.

Violating the First Amendment

The Espionage Act did violate the First Amendment. In the case of Schenk vs. United States, Charles Schenk distributed flyers to serviceman that were going to fight and sent off for War. His flyers informed people on the war, his personal opinions on the war how it was motivated by a capitalist greed. He expressed himself through his flyers, which led to the U.S government charging him for violating the Espionage Act. However Schenk believed that it was the other way around, the act violated the First Amendment.  The Act wasn’t giving his the right to share his opinions on the war to many others. The government believed that the flyers could cause an act of disobedience.

Importance of Ida Tarbel

Ida Tarbell embarked on the study of John D. Rockefeller's Standard Oil Company. Her history of the Standard Oil Company, which was published in 1904, was a landmark work of journalism that was then known as muckraking. She exposed Rockerfeller's unfair business, she basically wrote about how a business monopoly exploits by using unfair strategies. The unfair business outraged the public leading to the government to take complete charge of the situation. It is said that Rockerfeller's business violated the Sherman Anti-Trust Act. This act requires the United States federal government to investigate and pursuit trusts, companies, and organizations suspected of going against this act. It limits monopolies.  Years past by, and the Supreme Court made the final decision and declared a break-up of the Standard Oil. This was one of the most important issue Ida Tarbell contributed in.  According to a an article pertaining to her accomplishment, the company was put under an anti-legislation.  People became aware of problems like these, people became involved in progressive reforms, they were not trying to see the unfairness of businesses happen again.

Epionage Act of 1917

It is a United States federal law passed down shortly after entry of World War I. It was criticised as unconstitutional, the act resulting in many prisoners who were a part of the anti-war movement. It prohibited any interfering with milatary operations or to interfere with military recruitment. Once the declaration of war was made against the Germany this act was passed and signed by President Wilson. This prohibited attempts to cause mutiny in the U.S military or to help America's enemies.

Espionage Act is in existence today, howevery its ability to punish enemies of the state is much more limited. In 1921 portions of the Espionage Act were taken off but some remained today in federal law. The U.S Supreme Court does not prevent publication of information but it can punish publication after the fact it constitutes incitement. Publication of secret information on the milatary forces is excepted and design of milatary weapons as well, the government has control over it and can prevent it.
