Ida Tarbell embarked on the study of John D. Rockefeller's Standard Oil Company. Her history of the Standard Oil Company, which was published in 1904, was a landmark work of journalism that was then known as muckraking. She exposed Rockerfeller's unfair business, she basically wrote about how a business monopoly exploits by using unfair strategies. The unfair business outraged the public leading to the government to take complete charge of the situation. It is said that Rockerfeller's business violated the Sherman Anti-Trust Act. This act requires the United States federal government to investigate and pursuit trusts, companies, and organizations suspected of going against this act. It limits monopolies. Years past by, and the Supreme Court made the final decision and declared a break-up of the Standard Oil. This was one of the most important issue Ida Tarbell contributed in. According to a an article pertaining to her accomplishment, the company was put under an anti-legislation. People became aware of problems like these, people became involved in progressive reforms, they were not trying to see the unfairness of businesses happen again.
